Greetings from a Keralaite…. I am writing this in the context of controversies regarding developmental policies of political parties in Kerala
Everyone wants development to happen in Kerala and Employment for all. There are two ways, first one - to sell out the lands and Government assets- to the minions and relatives of political leaders and let them have the development - Which was happening in Kerala, in the last 5 years. The second one, a development model, which guarantees economic growth ,employment, social security and freedom to live with honor to all sections of the society. From daily wages earner to high -tech Professional. So choice is yours
I would like to answer some of the claims of Smart City Group- read as Land Mafia....Please read it and decide........
Smart City Program is being started by a group of real estate people from Dubai who was no previous experience in IT or related Industry. Previous records and Information available in the company website itself shows that they were able to generate only some odd 3000 jobs in the last 5 years which are mainly customer support jobs.
Smart City - Opportunities and risks.
Claims of Ommen Chandi and Dubai Internet City People
* Employment Generation for 30,000 people in the first 3 years.
* In the next ten years number of Job opportunities will grow upto 10,0,000
* Revenue from the Smart City to the state exchequer - 60 crore
* Dubai internet city will invest 1500 crore
For all above said claims to realize, we the people of kerala have to donate 586 Acres of Land ,in the prime location ,of Upcoming metro city cochin. See ,even if you estimate using the lowest land price pertaining in cochin ,say 50,000 per cent (100 cent is 1 Acre ) ,the whole land deal will come close to an astonishing 3000 crore rupees. In addition to this Ommen Chandi will hand over the Info Park along with adjust 64 acres of land for free. This raises the total land deal to 3500 crore rupees.
They are planning to invest 1500 (only planning, no accountable agreement ),but they are already making a profit of 2000 crore ruppes.
Revenue of 60 crore to the exchequer after giving 3500 crore worth land and another 500 crore worth amenities like Free electricity, Water and drainage systems, Tax Rebates etc. Even a road side hawker knows how to do business more profitably. Government of Kerala is getting only 1.5% return on its dead investment. (4000 crore to Dubai SmarCity ).
If the deal is fair and good Why they are not publishing the details of the agreement with Dubai Smart City People ?
There is another angle for this Smart City Program - National Security. Cochin is a Port City ,which caters to many Defense establishments and it is strategically important place for our defense. Handing over thousands acres of land to a foreign firm with exclusive rights of administration and control, would be boon for the terrorists if they want to conduct any anti-national activities . Already there are reports ,which say kerala has become a transit point for terrorist activities
So Dubai Smart City , a real estate development company (Not an agency of Govt of Dubai, See their website ) who has little competency in IT sector will be getting land worth 3500 crore in a strategically important location of India for Peanuts. It is like selling out 20 % of New York City to Mullahs from Saudi Arabia.
Do you want Selling out the Port City of Cochin to Few Arab sheiks ? See the hue and cry which was raised against a Dubai company handling American Ports(Dubai Ports World - http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,187307,00.html ). Finally due to People pressure Dubai company backed out from the bidding. See a people are concerned about an external agency handling strategically important areas of a Nation
Because of regulations in the agreements with smart city, we have lost 4000 job opportunities already. CTS and Wipro stopped their expansion plans and Wipro is investing heavily in Coimbatore .
Man, Ommen and Kunjali Gang are cheating people ,with some mere gimmicks.
Let them make money,but don't kill an Industry for their own personal motives. See in Bangalore, Every company gets equal rights and concessions.
What is the alternative ? We need Jobs. Yes I agree.
Rather than going behind the dubious companies and hollow claims,Let us see the Dubai Smart City plan as a business acitivity which should profit both the investor and the common keralite. Publish the agreement deals, allow the public to see it and debate over it. Change the conditions in the agree which can harm the interest of People.
I am not against Smart-City Program or FDI. We need changes in the contract that has been made between Smart-City Group and Governement of kerala. Why they cannt publish the details of the contract ? Let there be a fair play for all business ventures,and there should not be any monopoly.
Last 5 years we saw how UDF Wagon s was creeping towards development, without moving an inch in that direction
I would like to draw your attention to few facts of past on development
1) First Marxist Government (1957 ) invited industrialists like Birla, Tata to Kerala. Mavoor Gwalior Rions was started in 1957 .
2) They started the plans to attract Investment from Japan, South Eastern Nations, But they couldn't successfully complete the process because of the vimochana Samram by A.K.Antony ,CIA and Some Section of Congress .

3) 1967 Govt by CPIM initiated the Plans for collaboration with Denmark,(for fishing project at Neendakara-Kollam ), Cochin port development with Ireland.
More recently , in 1989 CPIM Government started the first Technopark in India. . Left the kicked off the ball of IT revolution way back in 1989.but later Congress Governments were instead of taking the ball to the development court, did the infighting and espionage dramas. We missed the IT bus of 90es. But later the Congress government (in 1992) didn't pursue the things properly and that is why Karnataka and Tamilnadu got an upper hand in IT developments. The CM was interested only in spy cases and Palm oil.
It will be wrong to say the the previous Marxist Government was incompetent in creating job opportunities they were able to create an identity of Kerala in the World Tourism Map (See UN publications 1999-99, National Geographic Magazine 1999-2000) .Do you know that at present more than 30,000 people are working in Tourism Sector in kerala
Last 5 years we saw how UDF Wagon s was creeping towards development, without moving an inch in that direction
Now,on this 21st Centruy, we have to leap forward.
We cannt waste our time again.
We need a Change in policy,
We need a leadership based on values and ethics, with a vision of development.
So Caste your Vote judiciously, Vote LDF
